Construction LAW

At Zahbihi & Watkins, we work with builders, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and architects to protect them against liability in all of the different stages of a construction project.  We do this by first making sure that the contract executed between our client and the owner of the project is drafted in a way that it protects all of the rights and liabilities of our client.  In the middle of the project, we assist with any modifications, or alterations to the original contract.  At the completion of the project, we assist in collection for our client by placing and enforcing mechanic's lien on projects that refuse to pay for work completed.  Finally, once the job is completed, and paid, should there ever be a need for it, we also fiercely advocate on any construction defect claims.

Having a well drafted construction contract that complies with all of the different legal requirements can be the difference between a smooth transaction, and getting paid for a job done, or being in litigation over issues that were never discussed in the contract.  We help contractors and builders draft construction contract that not only complies with all of the different regulatory bodies of law, but also spells out exactly what the parties expect from one another.

If you are a contractor, either sub, or prime, California law protects your rights to get paid for a completed job.  If executed properly, placing a mechanic's lien on a project can be a very effective way to ensure payment by the owner of the project.  However, recording a lien on a property by itself is not sufficient.  You have to enforce the lien, and we can help you do that.

We assist contractors and subcontractors with claims filed against them with the Contractors State License Board (CSLB).  We also work with builders, contractors and subcontractors in defending them against construction default claims.
